Signs, hence Guidance

what are you looking at? the sea? the sky?the hands?or the shape of the hands?

Human is complex. Our hearts are mixed with a lot of unexplainable feelings. and sometimes we’re just confused of which direction should we go. Then we’ll look for signs. They are signs, that we highly favour that we may think it shows us something .Be it good or bad. A Guidance Sign. Then we’ll make our choice. If the outcome is good, we shall be grateful and if it’s not, we should be grateful too because we might come closer to what we’re looking for by making err.

Yet, quite often people say “Dah takdir, nak buat macam mana”. We accept that Allah predestined our life, but we forget that we’ve given the chance to make the choice of our life. Indirectly, we blame the Fate. So if we think back, we should learn to make the right choice from the beginning. It is our responsibility to ask for His guidance and eventually choose our path.

[13:11] Verily never will Allah change the condition of a people until they change it themselves (with their own souls).

To make the right choice, often we pray to Allah so that we’ll be given signs.

We don’t see the signs, because we’re not really looking. But what if we look and find that there is more than one sign that may leads to different kind of paths and ultimately, different endings? This would be exactly what our hearts contemplated for. The guide that we seek for might lies somewhere, sometime in those signs. Which signs should we ignore, and which one we should take as a guide? I asked people back then and these are what they gave:

” Al-Nawwas bin Sam’an, radiyallahu ‘anhu, reported that the Prophet, sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam, said:

“Righteousness is good character, and sin is that which wavers in your heart and which you do not want people to know about.”

(no.27 , hadith 40)

but there is also:

[2:216]But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth and ye know not.

Which one is which? Again. will always be our questions. Do we take Everything we see as signs? or is it when we see something significant to our life appear? Or is it the sign that may seems so petty in our eyes but actually is bigger in significance?

And how do we interpret the sign? To our own favor? To our logical mind? or according to our pre-mixed feelings,Heart?

Rather than asking God for Signs alone, I think it’d better be ” O Allah, please give me your guidance and the ability to comprehend them.” in addition to the usual Istikharah prayer. We need not only the Signs, but we need the ability to understand the Signs. Otherwise we wouldn’t know where it could guide us to.

“what’s there to decode, if I can’t decipher the code. what’s there to encode, if I don’t know the code?”

But not to forget, Signs also can come without being asked properly. and that Signs, is truly a gift.
